Join Pinay In Action Football Fiesta This Weekend

Organized by Pinay In Action, the first fun football event of the year called “Pinay In Action Football Fiesta sa Bonifacio High St.” will be held at the heart of BGC in a few days!

It is a fun football event that will highlight an ALL GIRLS’ 3-a-side tournament plus fun activities for kids and adults of all ages. It will be held in Bonifacio High Street Central Amphitheatre, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on February 13-14, 2016 with a high visibility with daily weekend foot traffic of 47,000 people.

Football is a growing sport for girls all over the world, and a sport in which Filipinos can excel. To showcase how fun and competitive it can be, we are taking football out of the field and into the heart of Taguig’s lifestyle Center, Bonifacio High Street.

As the kick—off event of the year, Senator Pia Cayetano’s Pinay in Action is holding a fun and exciting event this Valentine’s weekend — Pinay in Action Football Fiesta sa Bonifacio High Street!

The categories for the tournament are:

1. Girls 13 & Under (8 teams) — Registration Fee of Php 1,500
2. Girls 16 8: Under (8 teams) — Registration Fee of Php 1,500
3. Women’s Open (16 teams) — Registration Fee of Php 2,000

Whiie shopping and eating, girls and boys of all ages are welcome to join these side events - FOR FREE!

1. Sumo Football - play football with a twist — while wearing SUMO SUITS! Compete with your friend or with a sumo footballer! 
2. Yoga by Beyond Yoga - Keep Calm. Relax. Enjoy. See you on the mat for morning and sunset yoga by Beyond. 
3. Spinning and Rowing by Saddle Row - Break a sweat with this new and entertaining way to get fit! Try it and see the difference.

The main beneficiary for this event is the “Batang Rogie"charity, named after UP football scholar, Rogie Maglinas. Rogie was a midfielder from Del Carmen in Uson, Masbate, who strived hard to play for the country’s premier state university. Having been struck with a rare form of cancer, he did not live long, but his short life has served as an inspiration to many young football players in Masbate.

During his very last visit home, Rogie brought back football gear for the local kids - a simple yet exciting treat for them. It is thier hope that Gabriel’sSymphony Foundation can continue this tradition that Rogie started.

Pinay In Action: Empowering Girls One Goal At A Time

It is a nationwide program aimed at empowering girls through sports, specifically football. We have chosen football for this purpose because height is not a distinct advantage, and thus, it is a sport in which Filipinos can excel worldwide. In football, girls of all sizes and builds can participate, learn, improve, and enjoy. It is easy to start a grassroots program for football since all that is needed is an open field, or even a basketball court. Further, the sport is already played in top universities, with several scholarships available.

With the recently concluded Women’s World Cup, the timing is perfect. Sports enthusiasts are ready and eager to see more Filipinas on the field, and many young girls are in need of the opportunities that sports and football can offer.

The programs combine the following:

• High visibility of our 3 A-Side Turf Tournament (Pinay in Action Football Fiesta) in Bonifacio Global City’s High Street Central. With daily weekend foot traffic of 47,000, the event will draw interest to the sport and provide maximum exposure for our sponsors
• ALL GIRLS 11 A-Side Tournament to raise their level of competitiveness and to give them the spotlight they deserve
• Futsal Tournaments or camps for more exposure and training
• Football Clinics which can be easily organized in any basketball courts
• Coaching/mentoring programs that will equip parents, teachers and coaches with the skills and knowledge to mentor girls in sports

"Pinay In Action" (PIA) is Senator Pia S. Cayetano’s advocacy arm promoting among others, sports and women empowerment. As a steadfast advocate of health, sports and women’s rights, she believes that sports can be a very powerful tool to empower women. Thus, “Pinay In Action: Empowering Girls One Goal At A Time” was born. This is a year-round nationwide program aimed at empowering girls through sports, specifically football.
